Well… It happened…

Filed under: Blog — Jimmay @ 8:39 pm

Well, it happened. Just like we all knew it would. We all knew just how lucky we are to have a Hall of Fame quarterback to lead us to the promised land year after year. No one needs to remind us that.

But for anyone who saw this coming – on this day – at this moment – well, they might not be lying after all.

There are many times that I, or my dad, will ‘predict’ exactly what is about to happen in any given Patriots or Red Sox game. Whether it be the home run we need that doesn’t happen, or the pick-6 that will turn the game around, we all try to ‘sense’ what is about to happen.

This year was one of those years, that I think everyone had a feeling would come back to bite us in the ass. After the whole Super Bowl XLII debacle (infamously simplified by beloved Bill Simmons as ’17-14′), this upcoming season has had the black cloud hanging over it.

To be honest, we were due. You would imagine that Green Bay would have been due a while ago with their run with Brett Favre, or Indianapolis with Peyton Manning, but in reality Favre suffered through some very awful teams, and Indy has lived in New England’s shadow the whole time, while constantly taking the high road.

I hate the Colts – they are truly my enemy. But I have a ton of respect for them. They have not had such a catastrophic injury ‘due’ to them by any means.

With the whole spygate scandal following the team, and Bill Belichick’s less than friendly attitude to the media, or other coaches, lightning was bound to strike us.

I hope to goodness that Tom Brady is going to be fine. He is one helluva football player, and gets the spotlight turned on him pretty unfairly.

TMZ follows him around with his uber-babe Giselle, when it appears all he does is run ‘errands.’ He doesn’t do a million commercials like Peyton Manning, or Tony Romo. He keeps to himself, and does everything he can to win.

Routinely he does the most to be prepared the best. If his season truly is over, I feel bad not only for our fans, but for him as well.

Our franchise quarterback is on the shelf – hopefully Matty Cassel can carry us on his back…

Manny Traded

Filed under: Blog — Jimmay @ 4:30 pm

Okay, here is my “official” reaction to Manny Ramirez getting traded…

My first opinion on this was that this was the worst trade I ever would have expected from the Red Sox. I mean, LOSE Manny, PAY Manny for the rest of the season still, LOSE two MLB ready prospects and get ONLY Jason Bay. All those things amount to WAY OVERPRICED. But then I started to realize something – it wasn’t SO bad.

If Manny could have gotten his act together, nothing would have been better than keeping him, and probably picking up his two options. But look at it this way. If they released Manny at the end of the season they would have just straight out lost him. They might have lost him for the rest of the season this year as he would have mailed it in.

So this year would have been lost, and now we need to find a replacement for him for next year. Well, you couldn’t exactly trade Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss for Jason Bay straight up, so that would have required a bit more. So this is essentially a loan of Manny to the Dodgers, so Manny won’t implode the Sox clubhouse, and in return the Dodgers put up the other half of the prospects the Sox needed to pick up Bay for next year (plus he plays now, in place of Manny)!

So all in all it does seem a bit of a lot to pay to get Jason Bay, but he only gets payed $7.5 million next year, far less than the $20 million Manny was going to get paid, and they only lose two prospects to get close to Manny’s numbers for next year.

As far as still paying Manny for the rest of this year, that is water under the bridge – so long as the Sox are willing to take that as a hit and not raise the ticket prices I am fine with that. It is a lot to give up if you look at it straight up, but if you look at it as two trades, its easy to see that this is what needed to be done. Jason Bay is worth more now than Manny – crazy as it is to say that. It just works :-)

New Stuff, Updates!

Filed under: Blog — Jimmay @ 12:07 pm

Ok, so here it goes…

We (Robin and I) have a new server!! Guess who hosts it? We do!!! So Robin bought the parts online from NewEgg and put it together and installed FreeBSD on it. After that he installed Apache, PHP, MySQL and enabled FTP and now here we are! Woo!

Right now though the ‘projects’ page is malfunctioning * I have fixed this! *. I have, though, put up the Holiday theme. As you should see it is snowing on the page and the sidebar is red, and the background is green. Also, for the moment, it appears that I have joined twilightcoders.net. I have worked with Robin on a site for his client and it appears to have gone through successfully. It took a lot of time to get working right but it actually seems to be better than this site even!

** EDIT ** So I have now set the time on the server correctly and set the time zone correctly as well… so hopefully I will get the dates and times right on here.

Well that’s all for now. I know I never post here but I am aware no one comes here. For now though we can just rest on this: Jimmay will be heard from again!!!

Happy Holidays!!

New Layout

Filed under: Blog — Jimmay @ 12:38 am

Well for the 11 hundredth time I have changed the layout of the site. I really have to stop doing that. For now though things have been moving along quite nicely.

This site runs using Code Igniters, which is great because I can separate all the different components of my site. Like, for instance, the text you are reading right now. I have a class that reaches into my database, takes this text and sifts through my BBCode and converts it into HTML.

Well any class can do that, right? True, but Code Igniters gives me the framework with which to work. What I mean by that is there is a structure, predefined by CI. I have controllers which I use for organizing my content into pages (home, about, projects, admin) and ‘views’ which are my structural markup (templates that have all my HTML just no content to go in it). There are also libraries which are for helper functions like that format class I was talking about, and to make the menu bar so it is dynamic, and my sidebar to be dynamic and those get plugged right into my templates.

In any event I should be able to stop changing things due to the ease at which I can change the structure of my pages. I have pretty much changed completely the layout page without touching the content pages which is a huge accomplishment. From now on all should be good. I will post again soon :D .

(oh by the way, don’t even THINK about viewing this page in Internet Explorer. I am going to see if I can fix it but until I do use Firefox or Safari, kay?)

Welcome to Jimmays.com!

Filed under: Blog — Jimmay @ 9:51 pm

Welcome to the new and improved Jimmays.com! I have managed to lose my original site completely and it is my fault… Oh well I thought all would end up great… I will make sure I back up my site as often as I can. For now this will remain just the way it is, I won”t edit it much, this will just be a test post for now. I am trying to make it as long as I can, while I can. So I will just babble on and on and on… :-D

I am just testing the blog features here now. Hopefully this will be bold.

And hopefully these will be seperate paragraphs!
